August: High Tech Tools in Pest Management

No one can deny that technology is all around us, practically 24 – 7. Whether it is the smart watch that is on your wrist, the cellphone in your pocket, or the computer that you use at work. We are living in the age of technology and data.

Technology has, and will continue to, affect our workplace. Tech has integrated itself inside many industries, causing panic and pushing people to google ‘will robots take over my ___ job?‘. It has even integrated into the pest control industry! Pest tech is here, and we are excited about it.

From more efficient communication tools that make job scheduling easier, to actual pest control tools that communicate when a trap has a pest inside it (real-time pest control?!). So, for our industry: as pests adapt – so can we!

Below, you can find some examples of how technology has affected our pest management world.

  • Telescope cameras: allowing pest management professionals to find pests in hard-to-reach places.
  • UV lights: Ultra-violet light can be used to attract insects into a trapping device, or it can be used to show rodent urine.
  • Smart traps: traps that trigger shut and release a signal when they do so to alert a pest management professional when a pest has been caught. Thus, the professional can collect the trap and release the pest out of harm’s way.
  • AI-driven sensors: a sensor tool that combines artificial intelligence, vibro-acoustic insect libraries & extremely sensitive vibration sensors to eliminate pests concealed inside trees.
  • Thermal imaging: a tool making use of heat to help detect pests if they are hidden behind or underneath surfaces/ objects.
  • Pheromone traps: traps that use a pest’s own biology against them. The trap works by using the pest’s natural scent to either attract or deter the pest to/ from the area.
  • Ultrasonic tools: Tools that emit a sound tailored to a specific pest (i.e. a bat or a rodent), but are undetectable by humans. The sound pressure and frequency drive the pests away.

These are only a few of the awesome tools that technology has enhanced for more efficient pest management methods.

So dont worry, pest management will not fall behind the times. Our industry will continue to evolve, and offer you the best pest management service that you can ask for.

We can’t wait to see what else is to come in the future!
