At SMARTSENZ IPM, we are lucky to work with organisations that make a real difference in the world. One of these is the Zululand Conservation Trust (ZCT), a passionate organisation dedicated to protecting wildlife in South Africa. We wanted to share their story with you because their work rescuing and caring for rhinos is truly inspiring – and it’s an establishment we are so proud to support with our eco-conscious pest control services.

A Legacy of Conservation & Community

Since its founding, ZCT has championed a dual mission: safeguarding endangered species—particularly rhinos—and empowering surrounding communities. Their approach includes habitat restoration, wildlife monitoring, community training, and expanding protected areas to foster ecosystem resilience.

The Crucial Role of the Rhino Orphanage

When poaching tragically leaves calves orphaned, the Zululand Rhino Orphanage, a flagship project of ZCT, steps in with care, compassion, and urgency. It operates around the clock to provide:

  • 24/7 nutritional and emotional care—feeding rhino babies every two hours, day and night
  • Comprehensive rehabilitation, preparing orphans for eventual release back into the wild
  • Security measures like cameras and anti-poaching units to keep the vulnerable orphans safe

They’ve successfully cared for dozens of orphans—many of which have been successfully released and are being tracked as they adapt to life in the wild.
