Say good bye to pests in the new year!

As the new year begins, many of us make resolutions to improve our homes and gardens.  However, it’s important to remember that with the change of seasons come a change in pests as well.  Here are a few pests to be on the lookout for in the new year and tips on how to keep them at bay.

  1. Termites: Termites are active all year round, but they are especially active in the spring and summer times. They can cause significant damage to your home if left unchecked. To prevent termites, make sure to keep the wood in and around your home dry, and fix any leaks or water damage as soon as possible. You can also have your home inspected by a professional pest control company to check for signs of infestation.

  1. Bed Bugs: Bed bugs are active all year round, but they can become more prevalent in the holiday season as people travel more. They can be difficult to get rid of once they have infested your home, so it’s important to prevent them in the first place. To do this, be sure to inspect any hotel rooms or rental properties you stay in, and vacuum and steam clean your home regularly.

  1. Carpenter Bees: These bees are also active in the warmer months, and they can cause damage to your home by burrowing into wood. To prevent them, you can paint or stain exposed wood, or use a professional pest control company to apply a protective coating.

  1. Mosquitoes: Mosquitoes will become more active in hot weather. They can carry diseases such as West Nile virus and malaria. To prevent mosquitoes, make sure to remove standing water from your property, and use mosquito repellent when spending time outdoors.

By being aware of these pests and taking steps to prevent them, you can enjoy a happy and pest-free new year.
